The Valley Concert Society is pleased to announce its second masterclass for piano students and workshop for piano teachers to take place on Saturday, April 21, 2018. The clinician will be the outstanding Canadian pianist Jane Coop.

Topic of the Workshop: Jane has proposed a focus on playing music from the classical period—Haydn, Mozart and early Beethoven. She invites input from piano teachers regarding questions and issues that they would like to have addressed.

Piano Students: We are delighted to be able to increase the number of piano students who will be able to participate. Students should either live in Abbotsford or be studying with a teacher from Abbotsford.

Masterclass: For the masterclass, there will be four students Level 8 and higher, each with 30 minutes to work on a piece with Ms. Coop. A broad range of repertoire is welcome.

Workshop: In addition, Ms. Coop would like to have piano students actively involved during the workshop in the afternoon to illustrate the topics under discussion. We are inviting three additional students to take part in the workshop, one each with a work by Haydn, Mozart or early Beethoven.

Application: The deadline to apply is February 15, 2018. We invite piano teachers to recommend students by email to valleyconcertsociety@gmail.com. Please indicate whether the application is for the masterclass or the workshop or either. If the application is for the workshop, please specify the composer whose work will be played. For the masterclass, there is no need to restrict the selection to the three classical composers that will be the focus of the workshop, and there is no need to specify the work at the time of the application.

Concert: Jane Coop will be performing for the regular Valley Concert Society season series two weeks later on Saturday, May 5, as part of a piano trio from Vetta Chamber Music along with Joan Blackman, violin, and John Friesen, cello. The program will feature Beethoven and Mendelssohn. Students and teachers who participate in the masterclass and workshop may add a ticket to the concert at a reduced rate.

Cost: There is no charge to a student who is playing for the masterclass or workshop to attend that session. The cost for all others to attend is listed below.
