Bursary Winners’ Concert
In its Twenty-fifth Anniversary season, the Valley Concert Society presented an evening of music featuring a few of the numerous music students who have been presented with bursaries by the society. Now, ten years later, in recognition of our Thirty-fifth Anniversary, we again bring an evening of music by young artists who have received bursaries in the years since then.
This program began with an effort to find the eighteen different recipients. Why not twenty? In one year there was only one winner. And one individual was awarded a bursary twice in different years. Recent recipients were easy to track down. Those from longer ago presented a challenge. Some have scattered across the country—even across the ocean. Some eluded our best efforts to find them.
Several of these young musicians have worked at building careers around music, some continue to enjoy their music as an amateur, and some have moved to pursuits other than music. In the end, we have found a number that were available and happy to share their talents with our audience.
The evening will present a variety of works and instruments. What is common to all of them is a passion for an art form in which they have developed considerable skill and which communicates meaning on a variety of levels.
The concert is free of charge to all our subscribers. It will come as a seventh ticket in the packet that you receive when you purchase our six-concert subscription. This is our thanks to our loyal subscription audience. Single tickets to the concert are available at the very modest fee of $15.
The evening will end with a reception that will permit the audience to mingle with the performers and to chat with them. The program begins at 7:00 p.m. There will not be a pre-concert talk.
