Friday, November 18, 2011
Matsqui Centennial Auditorium
Starting at 7:30pm

"In a Bayrakdarian concert there are moments that melt the heart and take away the breath, but none more compelling than when it appears her song is riding the currents of her husband Serouj Kradjian's sensitive piano." (Showtime Magazine). Their unique programme is sure to captivate audiences throughout their extensive Western Canada recital tour.
Isabel Bayrakdarian burst onto the international opera scene after winning first prize in the 2000 Operalia competition founded by Plácido Domingo. Since then, she has performed in many of the world's major opera houses and concert halls. Admired for her exceptional musicality as well as her stunning stage presence; she has four Junos to her credit. She is the voice on the Grammy award-winning soundtrack of The Lord of The Rings: The Two Tower and the award-winning Canadian film Ararat. Bayrakdarian has "a soprano voice that combines lyricism with remarkable dramatic instincts" (Time Magazine), and is well known for dark-hued tone and sumptuous phrasing.
Serouj Kradjian has performed as both pianist and composer across North America - from Carnegie Hall to Los Angeles - as well as in Europe and the Far East. An acclaimed musician whose readiness to break boundaries and explore different styles has made him an exciting artist on the international music scene. Kradjian has been described as "a keyboard acrobat of crystal virtuosity" (Globe and Mail).
Their programme is challenging and diverse, showing the versatility and many emotional sides of the artists. This concert is a rare opportunity to experience these exceptional artists in our own community - a combination of talent not to be missed.
